Jonah Bear and I at home in San Diego @ Dog's Beach, Point Loma
I was born in Santa Monica, CA and lived in San Diego, CA for most of my childhood (with the exception of a 3 year tour of D.C. from the time I was 12-15). I attended Point Loma Nazarene University for my undergraduate studies and graduated with a BA in Studio Art with concentrations in Graphic Design and Art Education in 1995. The following year, I pursued my CA teaching credential and had the opportunity to live in Salamanca, Spain that summer. I moved back to Washington, D.C. in my twenties to pursue graduate studies at both George Washington and American Universities and was lucky to have the opportunity to work at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. & BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown, Maryland as a graduate intern in several capacities (mostly arts marketing, special events and curriculum development for museum exhibitions). I finished with a MA in Non-Profit Arts Management. I have taught in both public and private schools in some capacity throughout the past 21 years as primarily a visual arts teacher however, I have also taught ESL and music.
I come from a large Italian/German family and love to spend time with them. All of my family (with the exception of two siblings and I) pursued medical sciences. I am the only one in the family who pursued the visual arts. However, surprisingly enough, my first love is music! I've been playing piano since the age of five and love to compose in my free time. I also like to swim, garden, paint and draw, write (mostly art curriculum), cook and TRAVEL! I am a HUGE ANIMAL LOVER and was lucky to have the opportunity to raise goats, pigs, rabbits, cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, chickens, etc. throughout my childhood and early adult years. I am also a proud auntie and love to spend time with my nephews, Liam and Sam.
I came to LHS in July of 2012 and absolutely love the school! I have amazing students, supportive parents and enjoy working with a truly kind and talented group of staff. GO LIONS!
